8 July 2010: Hoko Company Ltd., a subsidiary of Nippon Ham, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Maldives in Tokyo, held a special ceremony today to launch Maldives tuna to Japanese market, at “New Products Launch Fair 2010” of Hoko Company Ltd.
Speaking at this ceremony, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of the Maldives to Japan, said that Maldives had exported tuna to Japan for the past 35 years, but this is the first time that it had been marketed as a product of the Maldives that would be available in supermarkets throughout Japan.
Ambassador Khaleel further stated that this event will be marked as a historic moment in Maldives-Japan relations and it would not only boost commercial and trade relation, but would also help foster and build on the most cordial relations of friendship and cooperation that exists between our two countries.
Hoko Company is not a new comer to the Maldives. Hoko’s role in the development of the modern day fisheries industry of the Maldives began some thrity-five years ago and Hoko is well known throughout the country. Especially, Hoko’s contribution to the human resources development in the fisheries sector has been immense and had benefitted the industry considerably.
Hoko’s partner in the Maldives is Ensis Fisheries Pvt. Ltd. The Managing Director of Ensis Fisheries Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Mohamed Waseem, also participated in the ceremony.
