Chairman of the Maldives-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group / Hulhu-Henveyru District MP, Hon. Mr. Moosa Manik (Reekoa), will visit Japan from 17 – 26 January, on an official invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).

During this visit Hon. Moosa Manik will meet with H.E. Mr. Tetsuro Fukuyama, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Senior Vice-Minister) Mr. Izumi Arai, Vice-President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Hon. Ms. Yuko Obuchi, Secretary-General of Japan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship League. He would also hold meetings with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Local Government.

Hon. Manik would also visit the Japanese National Diet, NHK and Japan Tourism Agency and hold discussions on furthering cooperation between the two countries.

Hon. Manik will visit Hiroshima and Kyoto before he leaves Japan on 26 January.

As part of the Privatization Program, the Government of the Maldives has announced for Expression of Interest for the leasing of V. (atoll) Bodumohoraa Island. Since 1999 the island has been used as the Research Station of the Marine Research Centre.

The Government of the Maldives has now decided to lease the island for prospective parties/companies or individuals for research and development of  mariculture.
