The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Naseem, is scheduled to visit Tokyo on a three-day visit from 16 to 20 January 2012.
During his visit, Minister Naseem will call on H.E. Mr. Koichiro Gemba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and other senior officials of the Japanese Government and hold discussions on further strengthening of bilateral ties between the Maldives and Japan. He is also scheduled to meet with key Parliamentary leaders including H.E. Mr. Sadakazu Tanigaki, Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and members of the private sector.
Foreign Minister Naseem will be accompanied by Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Saeed Manikfaan, from the private sector.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Maldives.
The Maldives is currently the Chair of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
